International Stress Awareness Week

Written By Joseph Jackson 06 Nov 2019

With International Stress Awareness Week in full swing, we share some of our top products for lowering those cortisol levels.

International Stress Awareness Week

International Stress Awareness Week is perfectly timed, raising awareness in a period of increased pressure on us all. From planning Christmas shopping lists to preparing for a general election, the world seems hell-bent on keeping our blood pressure up!

The International Stress Management Association (ISMA) promotes International Stress Awareness Week to shine a spotlight on stress prevention, encouraging people to help themselves and others to seek help if suffering from stress.

This week, check-in with yourself: How is your mood?

I need a few weeks to adjust to the darkening sky after Daylight Saving Time. When the streetlights come on, I feel anxious that the day has ended – I still have plenty on my To Do List! – then I realise it’s only 5pm. But the stress of not having accomplished enough that day lingers on.

How are you reacting to life situations?

Snapping at someone unintentionally, gearing up for a battle at work, feeling easily annoyed over the ‘little things’ all are sure signs that stress is getting the better of you. When anger flares up faster than Bruce Banner changes into the Hulk in The Avengers, you know you need to get help.

Apothecary 27 has natural remedies and treatments to help you manage stress. One of our favourites is Ashwagandha, an ayurvedic herb that helps nourish the adrenals. Ashwagandha is an adaptogen, which means it can help your body manage stress. It helps keep you grounded when all around you seems out of control. Studies have shown that Ashwagandha lowers blood sugar levels, decreases cortisol levels and reduces symptoms of stress.

Pukka offers a range of products with Ashwagandha. Enjoy a cup of Pukka’s Peace tea, a calming blend of Ashwagandha, hemp and spearmint. Or the Night Time Organic Latte, soothing with its recipe of oats, lavender and Ashwagandha. The Night Time supplement will ensure a peaceful rest. We also stock Pukka’s Relax 7-Day Kit, with Relax tea, Wholistic Ashwagandha supplements and a wellbeing guide with tips and recipes.

For more in-depth stress management, consider our Homeopathy Drop-In Clinic. Dominic Upton and Sylvia Palmer, our resident homeopaths, can help you find a solution to specific symptoms of stress. Available every Thursday between 10am-12pm, they will listen to your concerns and guide you in the right direction. There is no need to book and the visit is free.
