We have the ideal pressie for your favourite mum-to-be or new mum –Mumanu fairtrade and organic balms.

The Perfect Gift For Mums To Be

Mumanu’s Organic Belly, Boob and Baby Balm is a wonder product for mum and baby. During pregnancy, the balm is a soothing all-over body moisturiser, ideal for preventing stretchmarks on the belly, hips and thighs. The balm transitions to a helpful tool during labour – being fragrance free, it is safe to use during labour and as a skin conditioner in drying hospital environments. After birth, the balm relieves cracked nipples and continues preventing stretchmarks on recovering skin. And the balm is perfect for baby’s newborn skin!

Mumanu was founded by local resident Samantha Thurlby-Brooks, an experienced massage therapist specialising in pregnancy, labour and postnatal massage.

“Nearly ten years ago I was trying to come up with a name for my company that represented the mums I work with and who my products are for. I wanted to include a Goddess name but didn't want it to be too obvious,” Samantha explains. “I came across Anu, a Celtic nature, fertility and mother goddess, and the name 'Mumanu' popped into my head. I like to think it represents the 'mother goddess' that's in all of us.”

The beautiful range of Mumanu Organic Massage and Body Balms indulge pregnant women with essential oils including lavender, frankincense and vanilla. Samantha also created three essential oil blends for the ultimate care: Love, Sunshine and Magic. Love comforts with organic palmarosa and petitgrain; Sunshine lifts spirits with mandarin, tangerine, lavender and vanilla; Magic entices with pine, spearmint, lavender and palmarosa. All balms are safe to use during pregnancy and especially effective with pregnancy massage.

“After massaging in the UK with liquid oils for four years, I moved to New Zealand and discovered massage balms. It's very common to use them out there,” says Samantha. “I won't go back to using liquid oils again. They're so messy! Balms are so much cleaner and quicker to apply during a massage…and if you drop the pot it won't go all over the sheets and carpet!

“After eight years I came back to the UK and developed my own brand of massage and body balms,” she continues. “I felt they had to be organic and fairtrade, so it's been a journey over the last few years to certify them and perfect them into what they are today. I've suffered with dry, itchy skin since I was a child, but now that I've made these balms and use them every day, my skin feels awesome.”

Feet can take a beating during pregnancy, bearing extra weight and water retention. Treat those weary soles with Mumanu’s Organic Fairtrade Spearmint Foot Balm. The spearmint will not only feel cooling and tingly on your feet, it also has antibacterial properties.

Samantha notes that the balms can be used safely by anyone: “Although I specialise in the pregnancy and postnatal period, my products are really great for everyone, hence why I made the packaging appealing to the general market.”

She serves clients throughout the Surrey and Southwest London area, helping women through pregnancy, birth and postnatal experiences. “I'm an advanced specialist in pregnancy and postnatal massage, but I also enjoy massaging non-pregnant women too,” she says. “I've used fragrance-free balms during births I've attended. They were so useful as there was no mess, and you can just use as little as you need without leaving the skin feeling greasy.”
